LEARNING
OPPORTUNITIES CENTER
|
The
Learning Opportunities Center (LOC) is year round Alternative High
School that serves low-income youth facing multiple barriers stemming
from poverty that are impeding their success in a traditional high
school environment.
Students
attending LOC will earn credits toward their high school diploma
while completing curriculum in OIC’s non-traditional learning
environment. LOC is a year round program that offers individual
attention and tailored instruction as well as supportive services
to assist students in overcoming barriers.
OIC
offers GED Preparation for students 17-24 years of age. Students
complete pre-testing in Reading, Math, and English (TABE Test) to
determine current skill levels. If necessary students will work
in a self paced tutorial lab to brush up on skill deficits. Periodic
testing determines progress and readiness for GED Pre-test. Students
are referred to an outside entity for actual GED testing.
ELIGIBILITY
& REQUIREMENTS
To
be eligible for OIC’s LOC program, the student must be between
16-21 years of age and deficient in high school credits. Students
may also be facing multiple barriers as a result of living in poverty
that are detrimental to their success in the traditional high school.
Income eligibility is also required for students enrolling in LOC.
